Project Dream Boy

Working on a very small game over Christmas break. Giving myself a week to see what it can become. I may go much deeper on this over the summer. I’m currently on day 3 of 7 so 4 more days left to develop this joint.

Background art is placeholder til I draw something nice for it. Sound effects I made using an online sound creator. Music is placeholder til my music guy creates a nice tune for the game with a similar style.
Still need to add enemies. I have an idea for the game, hope I can implement before school starts again…

Feels good to just play around with a random project. Hope you enjoy

Atlanta Blackstar “5 African-Americans Making an Impact in the Video Game Industry”

http://blerds.atlantablackstar.com/2014/09/16/5-african-americans-making-an-impact-in-the-video-game-industry/2/

Atlanta Blackstar has recognized me as an African-American making an impact in the video game industry. I am happy to be able to make an impact on anything let alone the games industry. I truly appreciate being included in this list. Back to work on Team Notion! The game won’t make itself!

Sushizoo in production

Sushizoo is a project that I had started conceptualizing with David Le (Owner of Sushibar in Corpus Christi) back in 2011. It didn’t become a game idea until I started creating apps. Fast forward to 2014 and now I have some time to work on this game with Edward Dennis and bring it out to the masses. I am trying to complete this game before I start school at the University of  Texas on the 26th.

The overall style is a mixture of Hip-Hop and Asian influences. I am trying to make the game feel like something fresh and new. The game will play somewhat like a fighting game but the player serves sushi… I know it’s not easy to understand or visualize at the moment. I’ll keep you guys updated over the next few weeks of development.

The game will debut at David Le’s newest establishment, Sound Music Bar. Currently, my art featuring the characters of Sushizoo are in the South Side Sushibar location in Corpus Christi. I think there will be an arcade style setup for it with graphic decals and the works. We shall see!

Up Up Ubie Remix

Up Up Ubie remix is a project I started working on about a month ago. I decided to remake the original Up Up Ubi game that I had released back in early 2012. I wanted to add a lot more things to the overall experience and make it exactly the way I’d want everyone to experience it. I couldn’t do it with the original version because the programmer for that game had left the game development scene altogether and there was not way for me to go back and touch up the game. Now that I have a lot of experience with the Construct 2 game engine, I am now able to go and make the game exactly how I want it to be.

The game will feel a lot more hectic to those that are good enough to get that far. The game shouldn’t feel boring and should prove to be quite challenging. I also touched more on pacing and was able to do a lot of testing to get a good feel of when I should have the game speed and difficulty increase.

Unlockable characters and stages are back and the game will have more characters added in as updates. I have made a lot of friends in the indie game scene and we like to do cross promotions. The character Syrek from Varia Games’ “Reven” will make an appearance in the future and so will Pure Nintendo Magazine’s character (Pure Nintendo Man).

After completing Super Ubie Land, I felt that including characters from that universe would make sense so I have included Honey Bee. She will have challenges for the player to complete and will reward players with additional coins to use for in-game boosts and unlocking characters and stages.

Overall, this version of the game will be a lot funner and will have a much more replay value than the original with all of the current and future additions. I hope you guys enjoy it. It’ll be out for Android, iOS, Windows 8, and Wii U very soon! Just need to make sure I wrap up quality testing and see if there are any problems on the Wii U version.

Busy busy busy…

I have some fantastic news! I have been accepted into the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy at the University of Texas. They have given me full paid tuition and a $10,000 living expense stipend so I can focus on getting my education. The academy is focused on leadership roles and not on how to actually make games. This will be an intense 9 month academy led by industry veteran, Warren Spector!  First day of class begins August 27th, 2014. I can’t wait!

Things have been really busy as of late. Working hard on Team Notion and preparing my partner, Edward Dennis, for his move from Arizona to Texas to push Notion Games with me. We have taken that next big step in our independent game dev journey and want to put our all in this.

There are a lot of cool news coming soon on the progress of Team Notion’s development. If you’d like to get all the cool news first, be sure to head to PureNintendo.com/Magazine and subscribe. Every issue they will be covering the latest details on Team Notion’s development.

Speaking of Pure Nintendo magazine, it felt amazing to see the projects I’ve worked on in the latest issue. It’s really a great feeling to know that all the hard work is starting to pay off. Is there bucketloads of money falling from the ceiling… no. But this isn’t what we do this for. We love to create and make people happy to play something that we have worked hard on.

The studio is complete (for now) and I have been working pretty much every day in it. It’s so amazing to see how far Notion has come since starting it in 2012. It’s still an uncertain venture in terms of financial success but everything has been going on so far makes it worth it. Take a look at the small, humble studio. Let us know what you think.

Some of you guys may be asking, “when’s Super Ubie Island coming to the Wii U?!”

There has been a lot of problems dealing with our game engine and programmers to get the game ported over to the Wii U. We are now looking at Unity and have contracted NewGen Interactive to create the port. We will have updates on Super Ubie Island’s Wii U progress soon.

After a couple of years being cramped in my apt bedroom, I’ve finally been able to rent studio space!

I’m so happy to be able to actually have a location for Notion Games. Edward Dennis will be moving to Austin, Tx to help me push Notion Games even further.

This has been a great journey so far and we hope to bring you more games really soon!
